September 14-16, I’ll be attending the Collaborative Communities of Practice 2004 Online Conference. I attended one of iCohere’s conferences last year and found it very rewarding, both in terms of educational content and making connections with others interested in the topic.
The presenters this year include:
– Scott Ackerman, Senior Global Program Manager, Professions Program, Hewlett-Packard
– Jeff De Cagna, Chief Strategist and Founder, Principled Innovation LLC
– Soren Kaplan, Co-Founder, iCohere
– Laurie Maslak, Consultant, Edging Leadership
– Richard McDermott, PhD, Consultant, McDermott Consulting
– Hubert Saint-Onge, Principal, Saint Onge Alliance
– Vicki N. Suter, Director, National Learning Infrastructure Initiative, Educause
– Bronwyn Stuckey, Faculty, University of Wollongong, Australia
I’m especially interested in Bronwyn Stuckey’s presentation:
This session delivers the findings of a three year research program case studying successful Internet-mediated communities of practice (IMCoPs). The findings offer advice on the fundamental conditions required to design implement and sustain IMCoPs. This research has proven very valuable whether you are charged with intentionally developing new communities, leveraging the value of an existing one or taking an established community online. This session will briefly describe several IMCoP cases and then unpack the findings of the case study research in terms of their importance for community designers, managers and facilitators.
iCohere’s approach to online conferences closely mimicks the best aspects of live in-person conferences, but at a significantly reduced cost and with the flexibility of asynchronous participation. Sandra Mingail of Canada Law Book did a great review of Online Collaboration 2004, their last big public conference, which will give you some more insight into the experience.
Registration for the conference is $199, a bargain compared to similar in-person conferences. Group discounts are available. Hope to see you there!
