Rumor mill: LinkedIn to announce major new functionality for groups

Next week, look for LinkedIn to announce their new LinkedIn for Groups functionality, targeted at alumni associations, corporate workgroups, and professional organizations. This will include new privacy controls for both group members and group administrators.

One of the first groups to sign on appears to be the prestigious PC Forum, as EDventure chairman Esther Dyson recently wrote about in her blog.

Consistent with their philosophy of being a map of existing social networks, rather than an open online community, groups will not be open membership for any LinkedIn member to join; it’s a tool for existing real-world groups to use.
