Choose Your Social Networking Photo Carefully
In light of all the discussion lately about photos on LinkedIn and its impact on hiring, etc., I found the following pretty ironic when I stumbled across it on MySpace:
Now it’s one thing to be unconcerned about what photos a prospective employer might dig up about you if they search hard enough. But posting about your job search on your MySpace blog next to a shot of your undercleavage is something else.
I don’t know — she has experience in marketing… maybe she knows better than I do.
Followed your post on MLPF.
Is she on LinkedIn, or did you recommend her LinkedIn?

LOL… no. This was from MySpace. Her photo popped up randomly, and when I went to her profile, I noticed that this was the latest blog entry. In light of the conversations we’d been having on MLPF about photos in conjunction with the job search, I just thought I’d share this is a rather extreme example.

I think question is “What would you hire her for,” as well as “How would she dress?”
I’ve seen worse on MySpace, but not while posting as part of your jobsearch!!

Hmmn, pretty interesting!lol
I doubt if she’s legit, I mean spammers all around wherever you go and MySpace is very vulnerable.

No, I think she’s legit. She’s been on there a long time and there’s actually nothing spammy about her profile — not promoting anything, I can tell, other than her rather excellent figure and now the fact that she’s looking for a job.
Just for clarification… she didn’t “deliberately” put her picture together with her job search posting. That’s just her main picture, and the job search is a blog entry, so when you open up the entry, that’s how you see it. That IS an actual screenshot, unaltered (except reduced in size a bit, of course).

Under Cleavage Is Not Appreciated by Employers…
Photos of under cleavage on MySpace will not help a college co-ed find employment….

Now isn’t that a little scary?? If you’re using the internet for a career development tool, why in the world would you have that type of picture available ANYPLACE?? Maybe it’s me, but personally I’d be very concerned about having that photo available on the internet in any way shape or form. Just think … if her resumes out there someplace with her address on it…
I recently was looking something up and I stumbled across an article I wrote sometime back in 1992 - so just because something is supposedly ‘gone’ doesn’t mean it’s gone either.
I guess it’s another great example of using caution with what you share in ‘public’ spaces!
