Daily, we are faced with distractions and short-term priorities that take our attention from what is important in our lives. Even the strongest network can degrade over time, if we don't make an effort to sustain the relationships within. And that's where social networks like LinkedIn comes in useful - at the very least, it helps us map out our existing network and stay in contact with each other.

I work my existing network - and seek out a few new contacts - for what I can give, not just what I can get. It gives me enormous pleasure to be able to help someone with an idea or a connection. I may already know everyone I need to know to accomplish what I want to in life (although I probably don't), but I am sure I don't yet know everyone who needs to know me to accomplish what they want to in life.
