BuzzMetrics, Trendum Merge

BuzzMetrics, a word-of-mouth market research firm, and Trendum, an innovator in Internet search and linguistic analysis technologies, have announced their intent to merge. The new company will do business as BuzzMetrics, with Jonathan Carson of BuzzMetrics continuing as President/CEO and Itzhak Fisher of Trendum as Chairman.

What’s particularly intriguing about this deal is that VNU, owner of top market research brands like ACNielsen and Nielsen Media Research, is an investor in Trendum and will continue to be an active shareholder in BuzzMetrics. Combining BuzzMetrics’ word-of-mouth methodologies with Trendum’s media analysis and mining technology and the backing and market presence of VNU helps put buzz marketing research in the big leagues with other media.

This comes appropriately on the heels of a recent survey (via WOMMA) of marketing executives in which 43% named “customer influence via word of mouth” as the #2 “emergent marketing technique” they plan to use in the next six months, second only to e-mail marketing at 70%.
