3 blog marketing lessons from Gawker Media

In a recent meeting with Steve Rubel of Micro Persuasion, Nick Denton of Gawker Media (publisher of the highly successful blogs Defamer, Gizmodo, Wonkette and Gawker) shared three key lessons about blog marketing:

1) It’s all in the name.
If you’re already famous or already have an established brand, great. But if not, a distinctive name really helps build the brand.

2) Blog PR = Blog Traffic
No need to spend a bunch of time or money courting traditional press directly. Connect with thought-leader bloggers, produce a distinctive, quality product, and “the buzz cascades”.

3) Men Matter
18-34 year-old males are Denton’s prime target. Why? Because “men of this age stopped watching television long ago and they now pretty much live online”.
