Big sites that don't get permalinking

<rant>

A few weeks ago, I was interviewed by Bob Rosner (thanks, Bob!) for his nationally-syndicated column, Working Wounded. It ran last week at ABCNews.com with the following URL:

http://abcnews.go.com/sections/business/WorkingWounded/WORKINGWOUNDED.html

Only problem is, that’s a URL that always points to the current version of the column, not my interview. So, I linked to it in my blog, but as soon as the new version of the column came out, the link in my blog isn’t pointing to what it’s supposed to any more.

That’s bad enough, but even worse, there’s now a link in the sidebar of that page supposedly pointing to last week’s column (my interview) at:

http://abcnews.go.com/sections/business/WorkingWounded/WORKINGWOUNDED_040402.html

But guess what? That URL produces a great big message that says:

Sorry
This content is not available. We apologize for the inconvenience.

So now I can’t even fix it. No telling when ABCNews.com will have that link working. Eventually, I suppose, but in the meantime, it makes for broken links, which means a bad web experience for the reader. You’d think a site like ABCNews.com would be able to handle this a little better, wouldn’t you?
